AUGUST UPDATE

NEWSFLAS

We are delighted to welcome two new Together! 2012 Team members, thanks to funding from the Lottery Community Fund. Alison Marchant will lead our Clubs programme and Damien Robinson will be our Youth Development Worker. Both are mid-career artists with an East London connection; further details next month. Together! with Paracarnival: Our free Carnival Arts programme with Paracarnival returns from Tuesday 30 July, running on Tuesdays from 2-4pm throughout the school holidays at Vicarage Lane Community Centre, Govier Close, E15 4HW. The workshops combine costume-making, dance and signed-song, as well as exploring the history of Carnival and the storytelling behind the dances. As always, these workshops are open to all Disabled people and their companions, and no previous experience is required. Carnival will also be the theme of our August and September Music Clubs, which take place from 7-8.30pm at the community centre on Fridays 2 August and 6 September. These will be led by a member of the award-winning Paracarnival band, and we will be building on our usual use of percussion to learn Carnival rhythms. The Together! with Paracarnival programme leads to participation in Hackney Carnival on Sunday 8 September, where last year we won the Judge's Choice Award. Please note you are still welcome to participate in the Paracarnival workshops and Music Clubs if you are not able to participate in Hackney Carnival.
